A brief history

BowelDisease.org.uk (formerly The Colorectal Research Fund) are fortunate to have an excellent team of healthcare professionals to fulfil our mission. Whist we are proud of our accomplishments we recongnise the value of our challenges.

The charity was established in 2006 to finance an area of academic medical research restricted by budget. Lack of general public awareness of the disease limits the funding for research and thus kept bowel cancer patients unaware of treatment options. This prevented early detection and treatment in far too many cases.

We support doctors and research fellows at St Georges Hospital in London to continue their research and clinical trials with patients suffering with Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, IBS and Bowel Cancer. The research is led by Professor Devinder Kumar PhD FRCS a leading specialist in gastrointestinal surgery.

The main aim of the charity is to raise money and this is where YOU can help. Many people are giving their time and effort to volunteer. It is both rewarding and fun! All of our trustees are volunteers working full time in their chosen profession.

We spend the absolute minimum on administration to ensure almost every penny raised goes directly to research.

We hope you can help us help the researchers help the patients.

Gary Douch, Chairman

Special thanks to Arfon Jones who kindly provided help and advice with all the legal work to help set up the charity.
